How to Beat a F*ck Boy at His Own Game

Let’s just face it- dating is hard. Like really hard. For those of you who are in happy relationships or know people who are in happy relationships-they’re lying to you or you’re lying to yourself. Just kidding! Happy that some of you are able to find love and happiness. But for the 85% of you who join me on the single team let’s get real real about this topic. First off, there are several stages of dating.

  1. The Initial Meet– Whether you meet through a friend or online (because seriously who ACTUALLY meets someone out?) And if you have, lmk which  bar… This is when the sparks are really flowing and the vibes are really vibing. Whether it’s physical attraction or something deeper, that feeling lasts for a while and you think hey, maybe there is actually a chance here. *Numbers exchanged*
  2. Honeymoon Phase– Two weeks go by and you pretty much tell yourself you are  “seeing someone” whatever that means. This is the phase where you get giddy and excited when he texts, snaps, calls, or DMs you. This is when you’re legit on cloud 9 and think that you’re about the bring him to Thanksgiving Dinner.
  3. The Plateau It gets to be about a month and you pretty much talk every day and see each other 2-3 times a week, which trusts me, is a lot. You’re thinking about him 24/7 and are starting to think about having “that conversation”. You know, the one where you ask: what are we? Shit’s getting serious af.
  4. The Fall– Just as you’re about to have the conversation he starts to back away and gets flaky. Plans you made are broken/canceled and he isn’t reaching out as much anymore. Panic Mode. Did you say something wrong? Did you reveal too much too fast? Does he think your eating habits are weird or better yet maybe your skills aren’t up to par? Thoughts start running through your head… with the common theme: I did something wrong.

Nope!  You didn’t do anything wrong. In fact you probably went above AND beyond for this guy and are the ideal partner in a relationship. If the above process has happened to you at least once, then you my friend, have been affected by a f*ck boy. Don’t worry we all have been at least once.

F*ck Boy: A person who is a weak ass pussy, that ain’t bout shit

Source: Urban Dictionary

This above process has happened to me- let’s just say a good amount of times- which has helped me to construct the perfect solution for how to handle such a special type. I’ve literally found the key to overcoming these types… Are you ready?

The way to overcome a f*ck boy is to be a f*ck girl back. Plain and simple. Now initially this may seem like you’re stooping to their level of ridiculousness, but in fact, you are just beating them at their own game. The only way to really anticipate f*ck boy behavior is to put yourself in their situation and feed it right back to them. Reverse psychology actually works.

Occupation: College Student, PR Intern
Age: 21
Location: New York, NY
Salary: $35K-38K
Total Spent This Week: $600.37

Sunday:
Sunday was a huge day for me! It was my honors convocation, my mother came early and we got breakfast (I used my meal card so that’s free money in my eyes). After honors convocation, I swindled my dad and step-mom to take me out to Bar Taco in Portchester, NY. Bar Taco is a compliation of delicious tacos, guac, corn, mojitos. You name it. They paid ($145) but it was my day right!
Total Spent: $0
Monday:
This was the Monday of ALL Monday’s. After honors convocation my dad informed me that I was driving with an expired inspection…woops. So I woke up and went to Mavis. Of course there was a million things wrong with my car inluding my brakes, tires, and shocks totalling a whopping $407. After this terrible event, I went to work my school front desk for 2 hours and then I babysat. I took the girl I babysit to the mall and of course couldn’t leave without a treat from Auntie Anne’s ($5.64).
Total Spent: $412.64 (although it was a necessity to pay for my car otherwise you know – I could’ve died?)
Tuesday:
Tuesday! Woo! So I had to go in for interning in NYC and when I got to my office I realized I needed an orange juice so I stopped at Guy & Gallard and got one ($3.10). As the day went on I realized I didn’t have any lunch, I ordered Pret via Uber Eats ($14.78). I literally had the longest day of interning thus far and was at work until 7:30pm. By the time I got home I had a good ol’ cup of noodles soup, watched Sons of Anarchy and went to bed.
Total Spent: $17.88
Wednesday:
Today I had interning again, this day was big because it was my intern project presentation day. I have been working on this for a month and now the day was here. After I nailed my presentation I went out to dinner with a good friend for all you can eat sushi. Then we went to the bar for a pitcher of Budlight.
Total Spent: $27
Thursday:
More life, more interning. I have a sick of obession with bagels, so I was due for one from Guy & Gallard and another orange juice ($4.90). I’m feeling sick/allergies so this is me getting in my Vitamin C. After interning me and my Little went to the Yankee game. Forget my metro card and had to buy a single ride ($3). Can’t go to the Yankee game without getting a beer so I got one heniken ($12.50). After that headed back to school, didn’t want to use my ten-trip peak ticket so I had to purchase a ticket ($9) and then somehow I got convinced to go to the local tavern #Beechmont and spent $10.
Total Spent: $39.40
Friday:
Last day of interning woo!!!!! Casually of course I woke up and needed a, you guessed it, bagel. So again stopped at Guy & Gallard and got one ($4.90). My boss took me out to lunch at Poketeria, it was good but I would recommend Sons of Thunder over it. I left interning early and headed to CVS to buy new makeup, lady things, and toilet paper – took cash out in case there was a cover at the bar ($74). Bought a big mac on my meal card, so that’s free $$. Went to the store and got an 18-rack and then at the bar I spent $20 (that I took out earlier). Oh what a night.
Total Spent:  $99.90
Saturday:
I woke up and headed to taco bell with friends. I wasn’t feeling too hot after last night so I didn’t get my regular instead I got Fiesta Potatoes and a Loaded Potatoe Griller. I was supposed to go to the Yankee game but due to rain it was postponed. Spent the rest of the day in bed.
Total Spent: $3.55
The $600 is alarming…but the $200 not so much. I spend a lot of money on food and beer and I”ve known this already. It’s hard to say no but I definitley could budget better. I think now that I’m out of college and will be paying for more things on my own I need to track. I certainley don’t need to spend majority of my money on beer. As far as my car issues go – my parents told me if I paid more attention to my brakes it woldn’t have been so expensive. So I definitley need to take more care of my car. Doing this exercise made me more aware of my spending habits and I might need to continue it in the future!

Occupation: Journalist (Magazine)
Age: 25
Location: New York, NY
Salary: $50-$60K
Total Spent This Week: $356.40

Sunday:
So I started out this week of recording my expenses strong. It was the last full day in Nashville at the Bachelorette party I was attending. We spent the day at boozy brunch, watching the Predators hockey game and attempting to have a drink at every bar on Nashville’s strip, or so it seemed when I looked back at my credit card statement to refresh my memory. I don’t usually drink or spend like this (sorry mom) but it was a special occasion so we’ll let it pass. Acme $20, The Stage $16, Honkytonk Central $20, Paradise Park Trailer $8.73, Back to Honkeytonk Central $21
Total Spent: $85.73
Monday:
Had a flight back to NYC after a the bachelorette bender in Nashville. Tried to be healthy with an oatmeal and coffee at the airport… regretted every $7.51 of it. Luckily as I was about to go find a seriously cream-cheesed bagel, my flight started boarding so my wallet and waistline were saved. I was planning to save money and take the bus back from La Guardia Airport but somehow ended up in a $18 Uber… and it still took over an hour to get back to my apartment. I was too exhausted to buy myself lunch so I took a nap instead, before heading uptown for class. I’m in part time grad school taking classes at night. I typically treat myself to Starbucks ($7.09 before class so I can stay awake a little less miserable than usual for the 6-9pm class
Total Spent: $32.60
Tuesday:
Since grocery shopping hasn’t been able to fit in the schedule over the last few weeks or so, I had to buy myself breakfast this morning. Oatmeal again, and and orange juice to fight off this spring flu that seems to want to hit at the worst time possible, $5.71. Foreshadowing the $50 I’m about to spend at the drug store on Dayquil, tissues and cough drops that is definitely not in the budget this week. Lunch put me back $10.34 for a turkey sandwich and bowl of chicken noodle soup. That held me over until I was laying on a mat waiting for my boot camp core killer class to start and heard a grumble from my hungry stomach. After 45 minutes of excruciating pain a rewarding workout, my workout buddy and I treated ourselves to kiddie cone ice creams ($2.50). These scoops probably cost more calories than we burned but they were *so* worth it. Ice cream shame prevented me from buying dinner on the way home so I went to bed early instead
Total Spent: $8.21
Wednesday:
This morning’s 4:40am wake up call was a rough one. Thankfully I was able to head to the train early enough to avoid taking a cab so I rewarded myself with an iced coffee and two pieces of fruit from my favorite fruit stand on my commute. For a $3.00 breakfast, not too bad. By the time I got to my normal 9-5 job, I was counting down the minutes until lunch. Luckily my boss had a lunch meeting in our conference room and I was able to clean up the scraps leftover, I’ll never say no to corporate scraps. After lunch, I pulled the trigger on a pair of $78 shoes I’ve had my eye on. My brother is getting married in June and the wedding party is required to wear gold shoes so I splurged a bit to get a nice pair. For dinner a friend and I spontaneously hit the bar at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants for tacos and sangria. Unfortunately, we missed happy hour so we had to pay full price, but it’s okay because the tacos were fully satisfying. $31
Total Spent: $112
Thursday:
Deli oatmeal again. $2.75 (This is getting old) Opted for a vegetarian sandwich for lunch to save $2.00, is this what being frugal tastes like? If so, I don’t like it. But after paying my shockingly high credit card bill this month, I deserved every tasteless bite.($4.50) I quickly forgot what a budget was and treated myself to dinner at The Cellar with a good friend of mine that just moved to NYC this week. We got happy hour cocktails and appetizers but somehow it ended up costing $41.84 a piece
Total Spent: $49.09
Friday:
I packed a fruit bowl for breakfast this morning but left my coffee on the counter, classic. Of course didn’t think twice before grabbing a cappuccino at Starbucks $5.28. I tried to avoid the Cinco de Mayo trap our cafeteria set up but after my coworkers brought nachos back to the office, I couldn’t resist. I managed to make a small plate and only spend $5.86. After work I finally put my neglected gym membership to use for my first running session of my triathlon training. Likely, nixed any benefits with the $9 green juice and $15.50 sushi I followed it up with.
Total Spent: $35.64
Saturday:
I was up bright and early for another shift at the gym. I thought I could survive without coffee but about an hour into the shift, I cracked and grabbed a venti $4.79. I knew I had a long day ahead of me and no groceries or lunch packed so I stopped by Trader Joes and spent $36 on some healthy snacks for the weekend. Finally, a purchase I’m not cringing to type out in this post. After my shift, I headed to the library for a good six hours to finish a group project that has been plaguing the last week of my graduate degree. Everyone was thankful of my snacks, except for my empty cabinets that didn’t get filled that night.
Total Spent: $40.79
Certainly not my best week, spending-wise. Definitely recognize that a quick grocery run could have saved me $150 or so. I don’t typically drink this much in a week (and I’m not just saying that) though it WAS my last week of grad school, so give a girl a break. Usually my schedule is more structured and I workout instead of go out to dinner and looking back on this week, that is the better option for my wallet (and for that bridesmaid dress I have to wear this summer). I probably should have taken it easier knowing that the Nashville trip would wipe me clean but I have a ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality and my budget doesn’t always fit into that lifestyle. That is why I wake up at the crack of dawn to work at a gym to get some extra spending money.

Occupation: Strategic Planner (Advertising)
Age: 24
Location: New York, NY
Salary: $75K-$85K
Total Spent This Week: $200

Sunday
Ran 11 miles today, eeeek! I’m training for a half marathon so this was a ‘long run’ day. Before I do any long run (7+ miles) I always get a cup of coffee and banana beforehand, usually at Starbucks cause they got the strong stuff ($3.50). I usually citi bike (annual membership is $155) to the East River, run down and around the perimeter of the island and finish up the west side, if you haven’t walked around Hudson River Park, do it NOW. The water, views of the Statue of Liberty, etc. are so lovely you’ll forget that you’re swooning over the Jersey City skyline ;).

Because I don’t move as swiftly as I once did even a mere 3 years ago, I have to spend as much energy on recovery as I do exercise; this is where my ‘mind’ of mind-body comes in. I go to a restorative yoga class on Sundays at 6:30pm at Yoga Vida (a drop in class is $20 with locations in Noho, Union Sqaure, Tribeca, and Dumbo). It helps me transition and prepare for the week ahead, because Sunday Scaries are SO REAL.
Total Spent: $23.50

Monday
I was a ride or die classpasser back when the unlimited package was still a thing. Since that was discontinued, I had to move onto something that I could do more frequently and consistently (see Equinox below). I still have a soft spot in my heart for classpass so I opted for the $15/one class per month deal so I can still explore new studios. Today, the post-run recovery tour continues with a 75 minute yin yoga class at Sacred Sounds Yoga. It was glorious, especially after limping around my office all day.

On my way home I decided to stop at the Bond Street Equinox for some foam rolling, stretching, eucalyptus towels, and kiehls products…YAS (all access memberships run for ~$300/month, luckily I have a discounted rate through my employer)

Total Spent: $15.00
Tuesday
Another magical mid-20s moment that I’m privileged to experience is adult acne, that ish aint just for the pre-pubescent y’all! Given that I’ve never really had to put much thought into skincare, outside of deciding which citrus fruit I want my face to smell like, the world of skincare is uncharted terriorty for me. I’m also extremely low maintanence (read: lazy AF) when it comes to my beauty regiment…enter Glossier! They promote ‘beauty inspired by real life’ with a few simple products for a natural, no-fuss look. I’ve been using their Milky Jelly Cleanser and I’m in LOVE. I bought a new cleanser (and then some) at their flagship store in Soho. ($47)
6:30pm – Yoga Core class at Equinox!
Total Spent: $47
Wednesday
7am – Cycle Beats class at Equinox

I got out of work earlier than expected today so treated myself to some tea!! I’m an avid tea drinker so I needed to refill my supply. I love a good, spicy ginger tea and have been recently been enjoying teas with floral notes like rose and lavender. (Harney & Sons / T2 teas, $26)

Also did some spring cleaning which made me feel v productive…I think another important component of self-care is taking care of your external environment wherever possible! I try my best to set myself up for success by creating a peaceful and cozy atmosphere in my apt (enter, fluffy pillows and twinkly lights).

Total Spent: $26
Thursday
6:30am – 4 mile run
Total Spent: $0
Friday
Went to see Ali Wong’s standup with my cousin and laughed so much my face hurt…probably the best ‘self-care’ activity I did all week! (~$60).
Total Spent: $60
Saturday
Did virtualy nothing today and felt GREAT about it…a lot of reclining and lot of NY Rangers (losing…but we won’t get into that)
Spending $200 a week on things outside of rent, groceries, etc. seems a bit exessive but I would say I splurged a bit more than I usually do. Although writing things down made me realize that a good chunk of my time and money revolve around things like exercise, I’m happy to make those investments because I know I’m improving my physical and mental health. Additionally in a weird, cylical way, trying to compartmentalize my life and focus on strictly self-care activities made taking care of myself more of a priority. I frequently asked myself before and after making purchases, working out, etc. ‘will/did this actually make me feel good?’…something I’ll try to incorporate more frequently going forward!

Occupation: Retail Manager

Age: 23

Location: San Diego, CA

Salary: $45K-$55K

Category: Lifestyle

Total Spent This Week: $463.99

Sunday
It was the week of Coachella Weekend 2 and I still had nothing to wear. I went to Urban Oufitters and bought a rad pineapple shirt, sunglasses, and tie-dye shirt ($109.91), went to Zara and purchased another sweet shirt ($53.77), and to J.Crew to buy some shorts ($45.33). I normally don’t buy anything not outside of the clearance or sale area for these stores but desperate times calls for desperate measures, it was Coachella SZN.
Total Spent: $209.01

Tuesday
Went to get some Costco Gas because it’s super cheap compared to the rest of the gas stations in San Diego – plus I get Costco points and cash back on my credit card! Hollaaaa ($31.63).
Total Spent: $31.63

Wednesday
Had to get some more socks since a few pairs vanished mysteriously when I was doing my laundry. I went over to Macy’s and they were having a sale! ($21.55).
Total Spent: $21.55

Thursday
It was my Mama’s Birthday and my siblings and I decided to chip in and buy her a gift. We split a massage gift certificate ($50 each) and a Teavana tea set ($7.50 each). I actually ended up spending $40 at Teavana because I reloaded my Starbucks app to get the reward stars. This was the day we were leaving for Coachella and I paid for the grocceries for the Weekend at Vons ($78.62) but my friends venmoed me back so I really only spent $19.65. We also stopped for dinner at Yardhouse and I had my favorite beer ever (Hefeweizen) plus a sandwich/fries ($25.15). It’s the freaking weekend, baby ima have me some fun.
Total Spent: $102.30

Friday
I was super stoked being at Coachella that I decided to buy my friends some beer ($50). I also bought two waters that day since it was insanely hot outside ($4)
Total Spent: $54.00

Saturday
Second day of Coachella and I learned from the first day that water is key to survival in the Desert. I of course had to buy a beer and some food ($23). However, the cool thing was, since I was using my American Express card at Coachella, I got $10 back – so I really only sepnt $13.
Total Spent: $13

Wow! I am shook. Taking the time and writing down my expenses for this week definitely puts my spending habits into perspective. I was kinda cool yet horrifying to see how much money I actually spend. That said, I usually am pretty frugal with my money but this week was extra special since it was Coachella and I was super excited! However, I did spend over my budget for the week and will have to eat cup of noodles for a 2 weeks straight.

Occupation: Law Student

Age: 25

Location: Long Island, NY

Salary: Student LIFE/lives off student loans

Category: Food

Total Spent This Week: $339

Monday
Went shopping as usual even though I’m nearly broke lol.
Total Spent: $100

Tuesday
Went into the city with my friend for lunch and drinks which turned into a whole day of drinking.
Spent $100 on food and drinks. $18 on train and $10 on subway.
Total Spent: $128

Saturday
Went into the city for brunch with a friend. Took a cab to her place for $17. Brunch was $33. Then we got ice cream together which was $6. We then had dinner which was $38. Including the LIRR ticket, which is $17
Total Spent: $111

I definitely need to spend less since I do not have a steady income. I live off of my student loans at the moment. I knew this before going into keeping a log of my spendings but the log definitely made it more real as opposed to just seeing the numbers on my bank account, lol. This week was my spring break, which was more of an anamoly on my spending than other weeks. If I do not go into the city, I tend to eat at home and spend less, so I don’t necessarily make these spendings every week.

This is What Happens When You Walk Out In Workout Pants

Sweatpants? Yes. Leggings? Love ’em. Yoga Pants? OBSESSED with them.

Cat calls on the daily? Loathe them.

If you are a woman who lives for comfort then you’re probably like me and own about 20 different pairs of leggings, sweatpants, and yoga pants. Oh and you probably live in them too….unless you have a corp job (sorry bout that). Don’t get me wrong I love being comfortable and believe that you should be 100% of the time unless you have to dress up for whatever reason. But I don’t love the uncalled for commentary that comes along with being comfortable.

For all my ladies who are reading this, what is the first thing you think about when you put yoga pants on?

  • SWEAT STAINS…yikes!
  • Ah! Now that feels better
  • Damn, I gotta start hitting the gym more
  • Why isn’t this stretchy enough!
  • Shit, I hope this isn’t see-through
  • Quick check for that camel-toe….Oops

PS: Aren’t my friends funny ^^

For all the dudes who somehow stumbled upon this post (god help you/TY for reading), what is the first thing you think about when you see a girl in yoga pants?

Actually scratch that, we all know what inappropriate thoughts go through your mind, you can keep that to yourself.

The point is, this morning I left my apartment to head to my part time job (at a gym) and the uniform we are encouraged to wear is black yoga pants/workout pants, an employee shirt and sneakers. As I got dressed at 5 AM I threw on some old navy black workout pants, my employee shirt, sneakers and a black zip-up since it was cold. I head out to walk about 7 minutes to the subway and within 2 min of being outside, I hear two men whistling at me from their trucks, rude af. I continue down to the subway half asleep and sit on the N for 8 stops. As I stand up to get off the subway and run up the stairs, I get another “ay mami” from the old man chilling by the stairs….it is now 5:20 AM. I then continue to walk to the gym (5 min) and get 2 more honks and 1 more holler. I arrive and its 5:25.

Within the span of 25 min and a distance of 2.7 miles at 5 AM there were a total of 6 cat calls. S I X. Now as a woman who enjoys being comfortable and feels that it should be ok to walk around NYC in just workout pants I was upset. Mainly upset at how women are treated when they are walking around minding their own business. This doesn’t stop at what we wear but also how we portray our faces to look. If a woman is not smiling we often are questioned as to why we aren’t smiling. If a woman is smiling, men view that as an open invitation to hit on her. This isn’t okay or right. It is actually down right disgusting.

So as I started my day, I learned two things. One- I should always think twice about stepping out of my apartment in just yoga pants. And two, I should be damn proud and wear what I want and not give a shit. Because at the end of the day boys, let me let you in on a little secret: we wear it for ourselves not you.

Rant Over.

From the Desk of a Barely 20-Something Year Old

*Disclaimer: I am literally just graduating college and figuring my own sh*t but I think I know something?

Let’s throwback to 2013-  I was a know-it-all 18-year-old entering college who knew that by 2020 I was going to be one of the newest (and best) lawyers New York had to offer. NEWSFLASH things change and that’s what college is about. By my sophomore year I found myself immersed in Public Relations, something I didn’t even know existed until an introduction to mass communications class.

I kept hearing you need to get an internship for the experience from every.single.professor. But I wanted to make money at my home job and have the summer with my friends, I had all of college to figure out how to get a job after college right? Wrong. Looking back, I am so happy I started interning my second semester of sophomore year. Now, I’m a senior in my fourth internship and I’m completely confident in what I want to do when I “grow up.”

In PR there’s so many different areas you can get into, but just like food you don’t know what you like until you try it. I’ve completed internships at a non-profit agency, a medical device company, beauty and wellness PR Agency, and a healthcare, financial, tech, energy and consumer PR Agency.

These experiences helped me figure out three key things:

  1. I like working in an agency.
  2. I don’t want to do purely social media.
  3. I hate hate HATE working on energy clients.

This matters because now that I am looking for a job I can look at these things I didn’t like and not apply to places or positions that offer this type of work. Interning is KEY to figuring out what you want to do and side-note there are TONS of paid opportunities. Out of my four internships only one wasn’t paid but the experience, team, and not to mention the free stuff I got made it all worth it.

My advice in one sentence: INTERN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.

Now where do I suggest finding these internships I talk about?

  •  Indeed.com
  • Looksharp.com
  • Linkedin (I find this a little more difficult though)
  • Your College/University’s career portal

Also – something that I do – look up companies I want to work at, go to their careers section and bam there’s an internship listing.  Don’t be scared to reach out to an HR manager either their job is to find people that fits a position!

Best of luck. Xo.

#ThePerfectBreakup: Why Deleting Your Ex on Social is The Best Cure For A Breakup

We get it. We’ve all been there. You’re in love and everything is great and then BAM you’re not. They say, “its not you its me”, “things are going too fast right now” or “I just really need to focus on myself”.

I say bullshit.

That part of your life is over and it’s time to get you ready for the next. Sure you’ll have your friends over and drink till you pass out or shamelessly go on bumble and tinder dates just to fill the hole, but the core of it is still there and it’s still raw. A couple of days pass by and you are finally doing better. You decide to scroll through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and everything is good. You move onto Snapchat to check out everyone’s stories from last night and then you pause. You slowly read their name and debate if you should click on it. Part of you wants to see what their night was about and the other part of you doesn’t give a shit. That moment passes and you click on their name finding yourself staring immensely at their 30 second Snapchat story filled with loud music and random people dancing. Then you see it. Something that you wish you could un-see. It wasn’t even that bad but the fact that you are now not a part of their life irks you. You keep replaying it to see who was there, what they are doing or if there is any background noise. Then you shut it off.

If you have experienced a breakup during Snapchat’s existence, the above scenario should be similar to you. Snapchat has been a blessing and a curse for our generation. It is a great way to keep up with friends who you don’t talk to every single day or to entertain yourself throughout the day. Heck- sometimes it’s just fun watching what other people do during their day. But like with all good things, there is always a downfall. The fact that Snapchat is so easy and easily accessible, is what makes it so frustrating when you are trying to get over an S.O. Of course if you are still FB friends or follow them on Instagram or Twitter you will still see things that you don’t want to see but with Snapchat everything is pretty much live + no one really posts intimate things on IG unless you’re that type of person (*side eye*). You can’t edit your video or picture THAT much to perceive something different. You can’t stop the outside or side noise in a Snap video. It is all LIVE.

So I’ll let you in on one of the greatest tips I received when trying to get through a breakup. Delete them from Snapchat. You’ll avoid being surprised with jealousy-inflicting posts during your routine morning social media scroll.

Breakups are a funny thing. We deal with breakups with silence and distractions. We avoid all interaction because we fear confrontation and closure. We deal with breakups by looking the other way and pretending that the person never existed. With social media being such a big part of most people’s lives, it is still possible to keep silence amongst your breakups by deleting them off social. Some may say it is petty but in reality it is helping you move on, and thats the only thing that matters.

#Trying2017

The beginning of a New Year is one of my favorite times. It allows me to reflect on my past year and plan for the next year. 2016 was a year full of positives and negatives.  It was a year full of challenges that forced me out of my comfort zone but ultimately taught me what things to prioritize in my life. Most importantly, it helped me shape how I vision 2017.

The year of intention.

Most of us say for the New Year we want to eat healthier, workout more, and have this be OUR year. Luckily for you I have tried all of those resolutions and can tell you the outcome…there is no outcome I’m still the same. So in lieu of making a cookie cutter resolution I have decided to mark 2017 as the year of intention. What the hell does that mean? Well, this is the year that I promise myself to pursue and maintain relationships of intention only. Now this does not just mean having relationships with romantic intentions (although that could be interesting…), this means having all of my relationships with true intention.

We should be having meaningful relationships that are full of intention rather than having a laundry list of relationships that are open ended. I recently had a conversation with someone who asked me why I hold onto relationships that don’t mean anything but are just relationships full of memory. This person asked me what the point of keeping these ties were. And to be honest I didn’t really have a response. I think one of the hardest things to do is to cut ties with people who may have been important at one time in your life but who aren’t anymore. Humans are wired to hold onto memories (happy ones at least) to remind them of the good times. Maybe these memories are preventing us from making new ones. Maybe these unintentional ties are hindering us from creating new ties. So here’s to having the best life of my life. To new relationships of intentions only.
